Somehow

We had peas for dinner. Somehow we got on the topic of spelling and how pea is different than pee. She wanted to test it out. It started with pea in green, pee in yellow, then poo in brown, zoo in orange (not sure of the association there, ask her Dad), then we surprised her with tea in pink (she likes tea that turns out pink, AKA hibiscus leaves) - having her spell it and then sound it out. Then on to a blue sea and from there to moo, Molly, Wall-E, Eve. Flipped it over to the back where she wanted to spell 2 feet, then 1 foot. It was fun to see her having fun with something that will one day bring her great joy.

Then I think, hey, my mom read Under the Lilacs to me around 4th grade, right? (Favorite memory there, Mom.) So there is hope that she will want us to read to her for a good deal longer. Thank you God.

On that note, we're reading The Wind in the Willows, The Secret Garden and Paddington. We aim for a chapter of each, each day. Tonight Wind in the Willows was so good that she bargained her way into a second chapter of it by giving up The Secret Garden. I am thankful, Yorkshire is REALLY hard to read out loud. Translating it on the fly to keep my brain from hurting.
