The Giving Tree

Today is a sick day, so Sophie and I are at home together. At nap we read The Giving Tree. We were at the very end -

"Well," said the tree, straightening herself up as much as she could, "well, an old stump is good for sitting and resting. Come, Boy, sit down. Sit down and rest." And the Boy did. And the tree was happy.

Mommy, why was the tree happy?

Because the Boy was with her.

Sitting on her lap?

Yes.

Just like Mommy made a little spot for Sophie to sit next to Mommy in the chair?

Yes.

At that moment the deadlock in my sinues let loose and I choked my way through the next two books.
